The Politics of Pragmatic Possibilities

...Or why Obama's stance on FISA makes me more willing to vote for/support him.
Don't get me wrong, I am in complete disagreement with Senator Obama on the FISA bill. I think it undermines the Constitution and allows some pretty dastardly practices to continue; I don't think the level of oversight is sufficient.
So, why am I more inclined and psyched about voting for Obama? Not because of the substance of his statements, but because of the way he is communicating them and what that says about his visions of a winning political coalition and an effective administration.
Voting Party, Not Person: A Message to the Supers

This is just one Democrat's message to the Supers:
So, we've all been caught up in the exciting and sometimes gut-wrenching battle royale between Senators Obama and Clinton for the past few weeks, and I have not doubt that all undecided Superdelegates have been inundated by both campaigns looking for your support. For those superdelegates who either have not made up their mind or are reluctant to express their preference openly, I suggest looking at the big picture for the Democratic Party, not just the personalities we have running currently.
Let's be reasonable, any Democrat we put forward in November has an amazing shot of the Presidency - probably the best chance since 1976. But we cannot focus solely on winning this race; we must reverse the decline in fortunes of the once-great Democratic party. Not surprising for a dKos acolyte, I turly believe the best route to that reversal is through the candidacy of Barack Obama.
Responding to "He Would Not Have Been My Pastor"

So, like a lot of you I have been fuming all afternoon at today's low-blow comments from Senator Clinton. It is simply outrageous to see a Democrat attacking another like that, I don't care who they are. I've seen a lot of comments and diaries indicating this move means Monica, the Blue Dress and all of Bill infidelities are now on the table for attack. Maybe they are, but that would mean Obama sinking to the Clinton level.
I'm a latecomer to Obamania, but what has attracted me to the campaign, and kept me donating, is that Obama is not responding to campaign attacks with the predictable spin, hype or obfuscation. He has used honesty and intelligence in refreshing ways for a politician. I actually cringed when he pulled out the "I wasn't there" excuse initially when responding to the Wright controversy, because it was so unlike him. We all know he managed to improve his response dramatically.
How does he respond to this attack? I have two ideas that keep him above the fray, positive, but definitely hit back. Follow me below the fold to see...
